After an independent FA tribunal found in favour of Sheffield United earlier this week things did not look too promising for West Ham's chances of appealing against the decision indeed after stating their intentions to approach the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland this was quickly ruled out by CAS themselves.
It now appears that the only other option would be to try and overturn this latest verdict by taking it to an English court although the fact that they are appealing at all has not gone down well in some quarters notably at the FA with chairman Lord Triesman openly critical of any potential appeal.
One interesting point to come out of the transcripts was the revelation that after assuring the Premier League that the Tevez contract was now all above board they were privately assuring the players owners that they would continue to honour the original deal hence committing a further break of the rules and quite rightly the tribunal concluded that if the Premier League had been aware of what was happening in private then Tevez would not have been allowed to play any further part in their season.
At the time many people felt that the whole episode stank of corruption and cover ups and that there was much more to come it is just a shame for Football that it has taken so long to get to that point and there is now the additional prospect of further legal battles with Sheffield United players past and present taking legal advice with a view to suing for loss of earnings after relegation meant an enforced pay cut.
If Richard Scudamore and the Premier League had dealt with this fairly and at source in the interests of all its members instead of purely looking after West Ham's interests then the game would not be facing the embarrassing can of worms that it now is.
