A hat-trick by Arsenal's Theo Walcott powered England to a memorable 4-1 win against Croatia to take a huge step towards the 2010 World Cup finals with Wayne Rooney also on the scoresheet.
Such a display has certainly been a long time coming and this was without doubt the best performance by an England team since the historic 5-1 demolition of Germany during the reign of Sven Goran Ericksson.
There was no confusion this time with unfamiliar formations the team played to its strengths and importantly at a high tempo which is what English football is all about and as the game wore on you could visibly see the confidence that the players were gaining from the match.
After commanding a huge fee as a youngster it has taken 19 year old Walcott a while to find his feet in the premiership and this display should do wonders for both England and Arsenal not to mention the player himself and although there are aspects of his game that he still needs to work on his pace and skill will be a threat to any side in international football.
There is still a long way to go in the qualification campaign but an away win against the fifth best team in the FIFA World rankings is a feat that you have to assume the other teams in England's group will probably not emulate.
