Man Utd And City Land Targets

The big news as the transfer deadline closed was the Manchester clubs both landing big transfer targets with City signing Brazilian Robinho from Spanish giants Real Madrid for a reported £32.5 million after the deal with Chelsea had dragged on for days the player will add a bit more flair to Mark Hughes's team to add to the signing of Shaun Wright Phillips and make them an even stronger proposition.

Manchester United meanwhile concluded the other drawn out transfer saga signing Dimitar Berbatov for £30.75 million from Tottenham Hotspur a deal that has not been short of controversy all round not least the conduct of the player himself which if reports are true leaves a lot to be desired.

Manchester City actually made an unsuccessful attempt to hijack the Berbatov deal having a bid of around £30 million accepted but the player had his heart set on a move to Old Trafford.

It is a shame that Spurs could not do what both United did with Ronaldo and Martin O'Neill did with Gareth Barry but that does not take into account Berbatov's apparent sulking which has left many Tottenham fans glad to see the back of him with Fraizer Campbell moving to White Hart Lane on loan probably being a sweetener.

Spurs themselves have also spent a few quid on Roman Pavlyuchenko from Spartak Moscow for £14 million and Vedran Corluka from Manchester City for £8.5 million as they try to rebuild after losing a trio of strikers in recent months with the departures of Defoe, Keane and Berbatov.
