As the new premiership season fast approaches Chelsea have met Frank Lampard's demand for a new five year deal as opposed to the four years that were previously on offer for the 30 year old midfielder.
The contract makes Lampard the highest paid player in the premiership on £151,000 per week and good luck to him he is a fine player but if clubs are going to pay these sums then players will continue to hold out for what they want although you have to question whether any other club bar Chelsea would have given in to the demand for an extra year because a lot can happen in five years and I suspect that Lampard will not be quite the player he is now when he is approaching the end of his new contract.
It is now only a matter of time before a player hits the £200,000 per week mark unless football's relevant governing bodies can impose some sort of cap on these salaries which are spiralling out of control it is ironic to say the least that as players wages go through the roof there is the farcical situation in league two where the bottom three clubs have all started the new season with a points deficit due to financial issues and administration.
Football needs to keep one eye on the grass roots side of things because if clubs in the lower leagues go to the wall then the game will ultimately consume itself.

In my opinion, Frank isn't worth 151,000 per week.
Certainly ability does not equate to pay scale
